Mad River & Nickel Plate Railroad Museum - Bellevue, OH
The bustling railroad town of Bellevue, Ohio is a big stop on the map for three busy (at least formerly busy) rail lines. The largest and perhaps most famous line in town was the fabled Nickel Plate Road. With a division point, hump yard, and engine facilities, Bellevue was arguable the heart of the Nickel Plate's main line from Buffalo, New York to Chicago. To honor the heritage of the Nickel Plate, Wheeling & Lake Erie, and Pennsylvania Railroads through town, the Mad RIver & Nikcel Plate Railroad Museum was formed. The musuem is an impressive one, especially for its size. Volunteers are always tackling all kinds of projects, and the pride and joy of the museum's collection is Nickel Plate "Berkshire" 757. It arrived on the property in February of 2019, and plans are underway to cosmetically restore and protect the engine for years to come.
